Big Business

Posted at 11:34 AM on August 17, 2007 by Christina Schmitt

Next weekend, The Melvins are playing with Helmet and the Birthday Suits in the downtown Grumpy's parking lot. The Melvins' publicist says the power duo Big Business will be the Melvins' rhythm section for the show. Rock that.

Back to cool shows this weekend: Tonight at First Avenue is YO! the Movement's 6th Annual Twin Cities Celebration of Hip Hop. With a bunch acts including Naughty by Nature and Eyedea & Abilities.

Best Friends Forever (CD Release) party is tonight, too, at the Varsity Theater. Check out Best Friends Forever in studio performance on The Current.

On Saturday is the return of former Jayhawk Mark Olson at the 400 Bar.

And you gotta love a show that will look as good on the outside of the bar as in it. Saturday is the 2007 Twin Cities Motorscooter Rally at the Triple Rock with hardcore rocker girls The Menstrual Tramps, Degeneration, The Spent 50s and The Prize Fighters.

"My 3 Songs" for Friday

Posted at 2:39 PM on August 17, 2007 by Steve Seel (2 Comments)

I gotta say, today's set I was more than happy to play. Bill Radintz of Maple Grove submitted "two excellent Minnesota bands who might be gone but shouldn't be forgotten, and one band we thought was gone but who is playing a show at the Uptown Bar on August 18th (tomorrow night) after a two year absence."

1) 12 Rods, "Split Personalities"
2) Arson Welles, "Arsenal"
3) Love-cars, "This Conversation Has Only Got One Side"

Has it really been two years? Wow. Either way, it's true, Love-cars are playing tomorrow at the Uptown. Sadly, I'll be out of town tending to a family obligation and will have to miss it. Now, I love my family (hi, family) -- but I hope I won't have to wait another two years for the next Love-cars show! Promise us this isn't the last, guys.

Ewan Pearson...does a great job of blogging you through the mix that we played, compilation 'fabric 35'.
Last week we played the first part, tonight tracks 10 thru 15.

Great week for dance events, with the biggest DJ in the world, Tiesto, at Myth on Wednesday.
Here's a good place to keep up with these events and use their excellent search engine to find more music from your fave DJs and labels.
