I just rode my bike through my neighborhood, checking out the block parties and listening to Mary and Mark on my headphones. It's become my favorite thing to do on the first Tuesday of August. I was so thrilled to see so many parties happening; seems like every other street was blocked off and kids were playing in sprinklers, the smell of charred food was everywhere, and I swear I saw what looked suspiciously like people shaking hands and introducing themselves to each other. I hope you got out and did something to remind yourself why you like living in your community and why it's important to keep it safe and strong. Anyone have any good anecdotes? Make a new friend? Find out your old boyfriend's sister's yoga instructor lives next door?
One note - last year for the Saturday pre-NNO event it was about 95 degrees and it poured rain on National Night Out proper. The reverse was true this year. Gotta love August.
