Posted at 1:33 PM on July 17, 2007 by Steve Seel (78 Comments)

Chris Silker of Mpls says, "These were all artists that I heard for the first time on The Current and that I fell in love with at first hearing -- and I've spread the love to others who don't listen to The Current." Well, hopefully exposing them to this music is aiding in changing their radio listening habits, Chris!

1) The Mountain Goats, "This Year"
2) Chan Polling, "I Don't Want To Kill Anymore"
3) Badly Drawn Boy, "The Shining"

The (Other) Day the Music Died:

Posted at 9:40 PM on July 17, 2007 by Bill DeVille

February 3, 1959 is often referred to as “The day the music died” & forever immortalized in Don Mclean’s song “American Pie”. It’s the day that Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens & the Big Bopper died in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa. July 17th is a mighty sad day in the music history books as well.

Blues singer Billie Holiday died of on this day in 1959. On the same day in 1967 sax legend John Coltrane passed away. Their deaths also show the evils of drug addiction. Holiday died of cirrhosis of the liver at only 44 years of age. Coltrane was only 40 and succumbed to liver cancer.
