"Song for Red," June 9, 2007 - "My Daddy Thinks I'm Fine"

What do you do with a precocious six year-old who walks around singing "Rehab" all day? And not just singing it, but embodying it. It's a sight to behold!

We try not to go overboard in sheltering Red from the evils of the world. At the same time, clearly, we monitor what kind of music she listens to and shows she watches. It's a fine line.

"Absolutely not" to Britney, Paris and Fergie and "For sure" to Amy Winehouse. Our parental rules may seem arbitrary to some. Don't ask me to explain. I'm just glad I didn't have to take a class before doing it.

But those of you who know Red know her to be bright, funny and mature beyond her years. So we must be doing something right. Right?

Today's SFR is Amy Winehouse's "Rehab." Here she is live at the 2007 Brits.

I'm currently working on a version in which the lyrics go, "They tried to make me go to recess, I said no, no, no!"

Any suggestions are welcome!

Recess

They tried to make me go to recess
I said no, no no
Yes, I sit in the back,
So when I don’t come back
Teacher won’t know, know, know.

I ain’t got the time
And my daddy thinks I’m fine
They try to make me go to recess,
I won’t go, go, go.

I’d rather be at home with Dad
and I ain’t done nothing bad
Cos there’s nothing, nothing you can teach me
That I can’t learn from T. Lo, Lo, Lo
