It's Mother's Day this weekend, so don't forget to honor your mother or a curse of a 1000 years is upon you. (Can you tell I was raised Catholic?) When you're not doing that, go to the bar and see local bands.

Tonight at First Ave: Andrew Bird and Dosh. 7:30 p.m. ALL AGES. Check out Andrew Bird's SXSW performance on The Current.

And right next door at the 7th Street Entry: Ben Weaver's CD release show. Listen to Ben Weaver on The Current's The Local Show.

Over at the Turf Club at St. Paul is another CD release party tonight for His Mischief, playing with...bands I talk about all the time. Very cool.

And another CD release party Friday night at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis: Andrew Benon, with guests The Hopefuls and Kubla Khan.

For a Brit pop fix, go to the Triple Rock for England Swings VI. "A dozen bands playing the sweetest British rock ever," including The Alarmists, Landing Gear and the Beatifics.

And if you need your tango fix, or want to develop a tango need, go check out the Mandragora Tango at the Cedar Cultural Center tonight. A free introductory tango lesson starts at 7 p.m. and will be followed by 2 sets of live tango at 8 p.m. ($15 at the door/ $12 in advance).

Saturday night, there's a big show going on at the Turf Club in St. Paul: Japanther, with William Elliott Whitmore, The Plastic Constellations and Superhopper. $5!

Saturday night there's also a fun punk rock FREE show at Memory Lanes with the Clipd Beaks,Hondo and Knife World.

Saturday night, the Honeydogs are playing over at The Varsity Theater in Minneapolis with w/First Communion Afterparty and Ticklefight.

For you hippie types, the Sorry Muthas are also having a CD release party Saturday night at the Eagles Club--the Nest, 2507 E 25th St, Minneapolis. According to City Pages, this band toured with the Grateful Dead back in the day, and this their first record release--ever. The reunion is at AN EAGLE'S CLUB. Get your freak on!
