Just a few minutes ago, Mary Lucia played Selby Tigers's "Cheerleading is Big Business" and then a few songs later played the Bee Gees's "Nights on Broadway." Awesome!
What are your favorite song pairings/sets you heard on The Current today?
I was just glad she played that new Dino jr song. Anyone else notice the riff from David Bowie's "Andy Warhol" snaking its way in there?
The best musical allusion to "Andy Warhol" that I have ever heard is "Master of Puppets" by Metallica. The main riff is exactly the same only, you know, totally metal. It's funny because I never noticed it until I heard The Treepeople's cover of the Bowie song. You might wonder if Metallica meant it as an homage or if it was just a coincidence.. i think it was totally on purpose; later on the album is a song (one of their best) called "Leper Messiah".. and more on the subject at hand; Mary is the best at the segues. "Icky Thump" into "Slow Ride" into the "Isrealites". i think that was how it went... nice.
correctiion, it's not actually the main riff... it's part of the huge instrumental jam about half way through the song.. but it's unmistakeable, as if anyone cares... And the Treepeople cover is amazing... that's Doug Martsch's(sp) pre-built to spill band. They also do a great cover of "Big Mouth Stikes Again". but i digress..
I heard Slow Ride when I was getting in my car to go home and I thought I was going to split my side. There's no better song to hear when you're stuck in rush hour traffic.
Hey, great conversation on Dino and Bowie and Metallica. I'm going to have to learn that Bowie riff...
Yeah, I gotta agree that Icky Thump into Slow Ride was pretty inspired...but she di'int play the longer album version.
I suppose doing that would make you guys KQ...and really, who wants that?
