Drive-ins!

I liked "War of the Worlds." It certainly wasn't the best movie I saw in 2005 but it was good. However, my "War of the Worlds" moviegoing experience was at top of my list for that year. I went to the drive-in, grilled some brats, chatted with friends while the sun went down and watched the skies grow not just darker but cloudier. A storm was moving in. By the time the Martians attacked, the wind had picked up and a slight rain was falling. The combination of mother nature and Spielberg was chilling.

It's Memorial Day weekend. Get to the drive-in! My favorite is the Vali-hi. They don't mind if you haul a grill in and cook. "Pirates of the Carribean" can only be improved by watching it with a hamburger straight from the grill.

I have fond memories of my parents taking me to the drive in and frolicking in the playground right under the big screen before the picture started. Those were the days, indeed!

Oh, yes, everyone should go enjoy a good old-fashioned drive-in movie while they still can. Such a disappearing piece of americana. It won't be long now before the last drive-ins in the twin cities will be plowed under for yet another soulless suburban sub-division.

The Vali Hi is my personal favorite, due to the wonderous memories of after-work underage teenage partying there (the sordid details of which must not be divulged). I think I saw Cheech & Chong's "Nice Dreams" 3 times that summer, and I don't remember any of it.

Is the Cottage Grove one still in bidness?
