Where are you this weekend?

Woah, here's a great weekend of local music.

The biggies first: Low's show 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, at First Avenue with Charlie Parr and Lonely, Dear. Low should get a stipend from the state of Minnesota for making everyone look cool by association. Here's a review of their new SubPop release, Drums and Guns.

And if you've missed the hullabaloo about Brother Ali's new CD, check out this week's City Pages' cover story. He'll be at the Fifth Element record store in Minneapolis Monday night for a free record signing. Then he'll perform at the Pizza Luce Duluth on Tuesday, and be back in town to wrap up his tour June 8 at First Avenue. Someone give this man a stipend, too.

Then there's the show more folks should be talking about because it's FREE and features members of International Noise Conspiracy. It's tonight, Friday, at Memory Lanes. The band is called The Vicious -- they're from Sweden and will be playing some dark, cool garage rock in the middle of the bowling lanes. One local connection? I will be at this show. 11 p.m. Memory Lanes, Minneapolis.

Others are torn and must go tonight instead to Nils' birthday bash at Big V's in St. Paul (yeah, I'm talking to you, Nick and Brett!) I'll cut them some slack: The guy is a friend to many, and playing his party is The Chambermaids, Total F&#!@ing Blood and Vampire Hands. $5. 9 p.m.

I know I'm not catching all the cool local shows this weekend. Share what you got!

I'd be all over the Low show, but I get to spend my evening fielding calls about people's cable not functioning.

I feel for you guys, I really do. But , what's up? Are you free next weekend -- no more tax preparation, no more answering calls. What will you be doing then?

I'll be out to see Blonde Redhead this weekend. I am just really won over by this new album! Never seen them live either so I have high expectations!
