"Song for Red," April 7, 2007: Passover Edition

Well, Passover is nearing an end and that can mean only one thing: flour tortillas and cake! Following the dietary restrictions of the holiday is important and taking time to reflect on one's place in the world is something everybody should do, regardless of your belief system. But, as Passover nears I get a hankerin' for that leavened goodness. Don't get me wrong: I love matzah, but it's not called the bread of affliction for nothing.

I converted two years ago and tonight's SFR, "That Old Black Magic," is by that famous Jewish convert, Sammy Davis, Jr.

Hey, whenever you have a couple hours to kill, check out Jewsrock.org. Now, we all know Bob Dylan and Neil Diamond and the Beastie Boys are Jewish. But, did you know, Mark Bolan was, too? So is Marianne Faithfull. And, believe it or not, so is Malcolm McLaren, the inventor of The Sex Pistols. Jewsrock.org is very entertaining. Find out who's who in the Challah Fame, test your Jewish rock literacy in "Jew or Not" and don't be late for Shul of Rock for some fascinating reading! Oy Vey!

Enjoy your chazir-treif, T. Lo! You're hardcore if you go the whole week adhering to the dietary restrictions. We do it just for one seder and it's rough!

Whatever holiday you are celebrating this week - peace be with you!
