With all this rainy weather we've been having, rainy day song's come to mind. I think my favorite would have to be Bob Dylan's "Buckets of Rain"...Ok, it's not even about rain, but it's such a great song from what I think is his best album, Blood on the Tracks.
What is your favorite rain song?
For nostalgic sentimentality I'll say "But not tonight" by Depeche Mode.
Oh, God it's raining but I'm not complaining
It's filling me up with new life
......
And I haven't felt so alive in years
The moon is shining in the sky
Reminding me of so many other nights
When my eyes have been so red
I've been mistaken for dead
But not tonight
How can you pinpoint just one, Bill. "Buckets of Rain" is amazing, though.
I was just thinking the entire album "A Temporary Dive" by Ane Brun works well on a day like this.
I vote "Sweet Rain" -Stan Getz.
Beta Band - Dry the Rain
I've always like "More than Rain" by Tom Waits for those really dreary days.
B&S's entire If You're Feeling Sinister.
My vote goes to "It's Raining" by Irma Thomas. The tune begins with the background singers going "Drip, drop, drip, drop." Legend has it that that Allen Toussaint wrote the song while on a break in the recording studio, sitting on the toilet listening to a drip in the pipes.
I know it's overdone, but I still like A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall (or, technically, A Hard Rain's a Gonna Fall)
I also like:
You Look Like Rain by Morphine
and
I'll Take the Rain by REM
It's Raining Again by Supertramp
It's Raining Men - The Weather Girls
I Can't Stand the Rain - Ann Peebles
It's gotta be "A Little Rain" from Tom Wait's Bone Machine. Hands down.
Led Zeppelin's The Rain Song.
Next favorite might be Here Comes the Rain Again, The Eurhythmics....
Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head by BJ Thomas
"Rainy Night In Georgia" by whomever sang that song. So melancholy.
Followed, of course, by Eddie Rabbit's windshield wipers slappin out a tempo, keepin perfect rhythm with the song on the radio...
(enjoy the earworm ;-)
Ooooh, I forgot "Prayers For Rain" from the Cure's wonderful Disintegration album. I took that one out and played it for the first time in many years last week, it still sounds terrific.
Also, Kate Bush's phenomenal "Cloudbusting". I love the Bolero-type build in intensity and tempo in that song.
Rain... by Madonna. Love that one
"So. Central Rain," by R.E.M.
And the Depeche Mode song ... how is the moon shining when it's raining? I never got that one.
Lorraine by Linton Kwesi Johnson off of Bass Culture: "Whenever it rains, I think of you..."
A Little Bit of Rain by Karen Dalton....that one too! Oh boy, this could go on forever.
easy..."rainy days and mondays" by the carpenters...
I nominate Just Walking in the Rain, Johnny Ray, 1957
There are so many! I almost forgot about the Ronettes "Walking in the Rain"....the Phil Spector "wall of sound" works w/a good rain song. The sound is as big as the afro wig Mr Spector wore in the courtroom!

Rain...by The Cult...What a great band and equally excellent tune!
