Mary Lucia just played a song from Kelley Stoltz, "Are You Electric," that made reference to a lady with "champagne eyes." Which of course reminded me of Neil Young's "Farmer John," whose daughter, of course, also had champagne eyes.
Now when I see champagne listed as a color in, say, a J Crew catalog, it refers to a sort of yellow. I don't often see yellow eyes, so what does champagne-colored eyes mean in these songs? Champagne eyes must be sexy, but why? Do their eyes sparkle? Do these ladies drink so much champagne that you can see it in their eyes? What do you think? Know of any other songs with "champagne eyes" referenced?
Van Morrison's "Sweet Thing" is the first that jumps to mind. "Sugar baby, with your champagne eyes, and your saint-like smile."
Maybe it's equally debatable how exactly a saint smiles?
I just had to say that I love that song, and Kelley Stoltz in general.
Thank you to the Current for introducing me to that eccentric popster.
I can't be bothered with anything recently. I haven't been up to much these days, but I don't care. I just don't have anything to say right now. I've just been staying at home not getting anything done, but such is life. Today was a total loss.
Not much on my mind lately, but that's how it is. My life's been dull these days, but such is life. I haven't been up to much recently.
