Here’s a can’t-fail idea:
Hire Keith Richards to play a pirate in the movies.
How could it go wrong? Keith Richards behaves badly. Pirates are bad.
The more Keith Richards-y he acts, the better the publicity. Right?

"I made a mix tape, and started with these three and really enjoyed them one after another. Very pretty songs," says Andrew Wylie of Eagan.
1) Andrew Bird, "Sovay" (live on The Current)
2) The Softlights, "Girlkillsbear"
3) Sufjan Stevens, "That Was the Worst Christmas Ever"
"Sufjan's Christmas song isn't very Christmasy -- is that a word?" he continues (I'd say it's a word). "It's more about the winter months and making something beautiful out of a bad situation."
By the way, if you enjoyed that Andrew Bird song, you can hear it as part of Mary Lucia's interview in our on-air performance archive (if you didn't catch it today, I would highly recommend it). Andrew was one of the first guests we ever had on the station, and that particular moment had a lot of meaning for me. Hearing this song always, always chokes me up.

The Hammersmith Palais in London was made famous by a Clash song, but to many it was the site of some very memorable nights of live music for over 60 years!! After a long battle against developers it has been closed. The last show was The Fall who have just started the tour in support of their new album. Typically they caused a bit of a stir according to the NME;

And there's some awesome stories about people seeing shows there at the Fall's fansite;
