Wolf, wolf

Fashion report: The name "wolf" is in a lot of band names recently. Let's see, we have Wolfmother, Wolfbrigade, Wolf and Cub, Peter and the Wolf, Sea Wolf, Guitar Wolf and a really gross band name describing...jeez, I don't even want to say. I just ate lunch.

What other Wolf names did I miss? What's with the wolf trend?

Let me explain. Every season, some people who work really high up the corporate chain at Urban Outfitters sit around a big table and brainstorm about what this season's hot animal is going to be. Then they proceed to brand everything with that animal--bags, bedsheets and, yes, even bands. You might remember when the bird craze started a few years ago. It was so bad, Andrew Bird had to wait until it all fizzled out before he could finally put the obvious bird on his album cover. Then came deer, and then owls, and then ... wolves. So, you see, all those "wolf" bands are just leftovers from a marketing campaign a few seasons ago. They're so last year, which is why they'll all soon start splitting off into side projects. My prediction for the Next Big Animal Thing: bears. Big, growling bears on all our messenger bags. Think Minus the Bear.

Patrick Wolf.

I wish the Current played more Wolf Eyes. Especially on the Morning Show.

Aww Shucks ma'am.. Twarn't nuthin'

I predict that the next animal name that will be co-opted for band names will not be the Bear, but the mighty Stoat.

Moats of Stoat
The Mighty Mighty Stoattones
The Stoatellis
Kelley Stoatz

just to name a few
