The Clock Winds Down....

Posted at 3:42 PM on March 16, 2007 by Ali Lozoff (7 Comments)

We're getting near the end here. Just a few more acts to go before we pull the plug and start packing up. RJD2 is sound checking right now. The guys from Solid Gold (the Minneapolis dance band - not the dance show nor the dance club) are hanging out in their black and gold tuxedos looking like they aren't quite ready to let the party end. A little bit of fatigue is setting in, though we are still jazzed about these last few bands. RJD2 sounds like they are going to be a riot. Mando Diao always brings the rock. And we are going to be treated to a special appearance by Jamie T, about whom EVERYONE has been talking today. Apparently he wowed as Lily Allen's opening act last night, so we're looking forward to seeing what the buzz has been about. Two more hours, three more bands... now we're cooking with gas!

I spoke too soon! Jamie T has canceled his appearance here, so we're down to the last two bands of this here broadcast. We're live with RJD2 now, and (hopefully), Mando Diao is coming up later. Apparently Mr. T lost his voice when he was wowing the audience last night..... or so he says..... There are some very unhappy people in our room right now, but hopefully they will love RJD2 and not hold it against us forever.

More soon....

Ohmygoodness folks, it's getting nutty in here. Thank goodness we're almost done. Lost our connection for a few minutes, but we're back in business for Mando Diao. And just as I took a quick walk to the ladies' room, I saw Albert Hammond Jr. in one part of the bar, and Slug from Atmosphere in another part of the bar. AND Tom Morello is now playing a live set downstairs. Apparently Buffalo Billiards is the place to be.

So get ready folks - this is our last performer at SXSW and then we pack up all our gear and start the long trip back. Things are feeling a little chaotic right now, so it's a good time to wrap things up. There is BBQ in our future, I hope....

This former Texan and SXSW attendee of yore wants to send out a huge THANK YOU to all of you for working so hard on this and doing such an awesome job! I felt like I was RIGHT THERE, but without the smoke-smell on my clothes, the hangovers, or having to crane to see the show over some girl in a cowboy hat and leather pants yapping into her Bluetooth headset.

I believe that the Solid Gold boys are decked out in what they refer to as their mariachi suits, no?
