Texting in Texas

One last note about SXSW before I dive back into my real life: SXSW may be a festival for rockers to show their stuff, but it's also the place where you see the kids flex their techie skills. You feel old fast when you're slow at texting, trying to figure out which shows you should meet up at, where the party has moved to, which famous person just walked by, etc. Meanwhile, a fashion plate teeters past you, texting with her one hand while chatting to her friend, all while walking down the length of 6th Street in fancy heels. Let’s just say if SXSW were the old west, and I were having a cell phone texting duel, I would probably be dead.

P.S. Does an apostrophe exist in the text messaging world? My Samsung cell seems to have left out the option.

I texted more in Austin than I've done in the last 8 years I've owned a cell phone. Although my fingers are tired, I became more savvy with it as the days went on. I was able to utilize the predictive text option more efficiently making sure I spelled kick instead of lick... I'm sure I would've shredded my vocal chords altogether with all my talking over loud bands if I didn't have my phone to text. I learned from example that texting is good for your health if you're a hipster scenester in the modern age...

Maybe apostrophes are just too "old school," since my phone doesn't seem to have an apostrophe either. Er, I mean doesnt.

The apostrophe is probably included in the phone's "symbols" section (along with other fun stuff like the dollar sign, parentheses, brackets, ampersand, etc.) Look for a way to insert a symbol while typing your message and you should find it. Good luck and text on!

UptownTodd -- I did try there! No apostrophe. Maybe I have to download it. Perhaps there's a "punctuation package" I can get, along with things like the lightning bolt and umlauts.

Yes, Miss C, but if that duel involved writing a good press release, that little teenybopper would probably be toast. As I used to tell my Freshman Comp students--the ability to text message will only get you so far in life.

I wonder--if I change my phone language to Spanish, do you think I could text upside-down exclamation points?

I kind of miss the old days, when everything had that cheesball LED display and you could spell "hell" upside down.

No kidding. I was super slow at texting and actually decided in texas that it was time to learn the crazy "itap"
text feature on my phone. I think I am now 50% faster at texting than I was before SXSW.
