My 3 Songs for Friday, 3/2/07

Posted at 2:11 PM on March 2, 2007 by Steve Seel (36 Comments)

A very, very cool set today, with a surreal -- maybe even Dada-ist -- explanation ... from Marlin Cappelpop Anderson (?!).

1) The Meters: "Look-Ka Py Py"
2) Brian Eno, "Needles In the Camel's Eye"
3) Television, "Venus"

Why are you requesting these songs? Marlin answered:

"I can't find my shoes."

Thanks for the absurdist-theater (and killer tunes) on a Friday, Marlin. Or whoever you are.

And thank you, Mr. Seel, and Wheat, and all the other brave troopers for providing the soundtrack to my snow day. I've been listening while catching up on my needlepoint. (Can you think of two things that go better together than the Dead Kennedys and needlepoint?)

Maybe Marlin's shoes are buried beneath a foot of snow.

Oh, I sooooo needed to hear that Television tune! Love, love, love it. This was one of those bands I was introduced to via a mix tape that a friend made for me more some 15 years ago, and "Venus" was the song she chose. The only problem is that ever since then I have to watch my pronunciation when referring to the actual Venus de Milo. I must take care not to pronounce it "mealo" with a soft "i" instead of "meye-lo", lest others think I'm pretentious.

Thanks, Seel, for picking such a perfectly eclectic and interesting M3S for today, and thanks to Marlin for sending it in. It was the perfect accompianiment for a slightly surreal workday.

I've just been staying at home waiting for something to happen. I just don't have much to say right now, but so it goes. I've basically been doing nothing to speak of, but shrug. Today was a loss. I don't care. That's how it is.

My life's been pretty dull lately, but I guess it doesn't bother me. I haven't been up to anything recently. Maybe tomorrow. I've pretty much been doing nothing worth mentioning. I haven't gotten much done these days. Pretty much nothing seems worth thinking about.
