Can three songs change a person's "music-listening destiny?" Well, that's what Kristian Bjornard of Minneapolis claimed happend upon being exposed to these tunes by a friend on one "lazy college afternoon."
1) Death Cab For Cutie: "Photobooth"
2) The Shins: "Caring is Creepy"
3) Trembling Blue Stars: " Ghost of an Unkissed Kiss"
Kristian says, "Thanks partially to these tracks, I have come to love everything The Current stands for ... so I dedicate them to 89.3 and my friend Bill." Cool enough! (For the record, we don't pick these things based solely on the ones that lavish praise upon us personally).

Seems like we have been having discussions about the 'resurgence' of classic rock and prog rock influences on contemporary artists for many months now, but we haven't really dealt with the implied issue at hand...virtuosity, skill at playing you instrument. I remember some musicians telling me that playing prog was the inevitable result of learning how to play really well, but some new artists seem to be taking this idea in different directions. Will Hermes, a writer who started his career here in the TC's, had a piece in the NYT this weekend that highlighted two artists who are showcasing their guitar playing
