Library Goodies

Posted at 9:42 PM on March 8, 2007 by Mark Wheat (3 Comments)

There's been many news stories recently about our library system struggling to survive.
It almost seems ridiculous to suggest that there are many great reasons to use them...
books are good, it's that easy! But they also do a good job of supplying other forms of entertainment and education, moral or musical, in tape and DVD form.
This winter we have seen a bunch of classic movies and BBC TV series and last week the missus scored big time with 'Man in the Sand' a documentary that follows Wilco and Billy Bragg as they try to decide which songs to record for their 'Mermaid Avenue' collaboration. Woody Guthrie's family had discovered a pile of over 1,000 songs that he had finished writing lyrics for before he died, Billy and Wilco 'just' added the music. You'll learn a lot about Woody 'the Okemah prophet' and see how he has influenced so many of the artists we play.
Many of these rentals are free, we can help support the system to keep them that way.
