Or at least the Bright Eyes song "Motion Sickness"? Every time I hear that song, I think of Dust in the Wind.
No, "Motion Sickness" just sounds like vomit to me. Oh but wait--maybe I'm just remembering the concert I saw at which Conor Oberst was so drunk that he threw up on the stage and slipped in his own vomit.
Nowadays, Bright Eyes just sounds like silence since I shut off the sound whenever he comes on.
Yup.
Man, you peoples are harsh. To my ears at least, the stuff I've been playing off this new disc is far less abrasive than some of his older stuff. (And as for the original question, I hadn't thought of that Christina, but you're right).
Wow...this is sad. Does anyone feel that Bright Eyes is a poetic genius? Because I do. The guy definitely has got talent in his writing. The guitar and music is usually relatively simplistic, but so is Dylan, and everyone loves Dylan. His strength comes in his poetry, which I think is good stuff.
Scott Blankenship from Classical 24 has some amusing stories about Conor Oberst's humble beginnings in Nebraska. I'll see if I can talk him into posting some of them.
I find Bright Eyes oddly compelling, although I've never bought any of his albums. He seems to be another one of those artists who causes people divide into two inflexible camps, either "love him" or "hate him". His message would probably get farther if he dimmed his "EMO" switch a bit.
Why in the world would any artist want to call himself "Bright Eyes", anyway? The insipid name alone probably turns people off, before they even hear his music.
Regardless, I consider his performance of "When the President Talks to God" on the Tonight Show brilliant, and I admire him for it. Bravo, Mr. Oberst.
Kansas? Not sure, but our own Sanden Totten of
In the Loop looks an awful lot like Conor Oberst.
