The one that got away again

We've talked before about the relative merits of Ms. Patti Smith. Today, the conversation becomes moot: the Woman in the Men's Oversized Suit Coat was admitted into the RNR Hall of Fame, along with R.E.M. (happy birthday, Michael Stipe!), the Ronettes, Grandmaster Flash, and Van Halen.

We don't wish to stir up the coals too much, but the fact that Iggy Pop (and the Stooges) were losers on this particular ballot... well, what the heck are these so-called experts thinking? Iggy has been eligible longer, and his body of work is more influential than any of this years' inductees. In our humble opinion, of course.

You're right, it's very strange indeed that Iggy and/or the Stooges aren't in the RnRHoF yet. But look on the bright side -- this lineup virtually assures us of a live performance of "E-Bow the Letter"!

[Blank look of shock and confusion] Did you just say that Iggy Pop (and the Stooges) is more influential than Van Halen and Grandmaster Flash?

Ha. Well, when you put it like THAT, taylor... ha ha. (ahem...)

but wait a second, really. There's influential, and then there's prescient and pioneering.
