Well, we did it -- we set up an interview with Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz) and Paul Simonon (The Clash -- I said, The Clash), via satellite from London to talk about The Good, The Bad and The Queen, their new band. Well, at least we thought that was the name of their new band. Damon immediately informed us that was strictly the name of the album, and that the band "had no name." Great! This works how, exactly?
Despite having wrong information about roughly 37 other things on top of this (I'm sure I would have been more flustered if Damon and Paul hadn't been as pleasant to talk with) I think the interview still managed to yield some interesting moments. Or at least some interesting laughs. Here it is.
very cool interview.
as for there being no band name, i agree, how weird and equally pretentious, but hey, whatev!
while there's a few really great songs on the record, with all the parties involved i expected a LOT more unfortunately.
it doesn't help that i've never been a huge Blur fan (prefer Coxon actualy) either though i suppose...
Steve, you are my hero.
Once upon a time I was eating dinner at the Uptown Bar, and upon a trip to the ladies' room realized I was walking within tripping distance of Paul Simonon. Those cheekbones are unmistakeable. He must have been in town with Havana 3am. (Yes, it was that long ago.) I was very excited. I changed my seat in the booth so I could face him and I watched him eat dinner. And that was awesome.
I also literally bumped into Joe Strummer at the 400 Bar when he slipped in to catch Lifter Puller there one night. I was too flustered to just stick out my hand and say a simple hello, even though he seemed quite pleasant and was friendly to everyone who passed by him.
Steve, I would have paid money to be in your seat this morning, but I probably would have flubbed it horribly. And that's why I'm not on the air.
Anyone else have a missed-opportunity story? Anyone you truly regret not saying a quick "hello" to?

wow! that's too awesome Ali
I just concur in that I would have given my left arm just to be in the room with you on the phone with Damon & Simonon.
Also, the Sound Opinions guys reviewed this record this weekend. (Split vote - a Buy It and a Trash It, I believe.) Even they refered to the band as TGTBTQ, so whether Albarn and Co. are pulling legs or the info's just not getting out there, who can tell. But if even the crack research team at SO thought it so, then how we were to know any differently?
the article in this month's Under The Radar w/ the band states about the fact that they have no name as well
