See The World

I just got through chatting with Spencer Wells a National Geographic Explorer in Residence.
Comparitively career-wise I am a sloth.

I understand we aren't all cut out to be explorers, it took me 3 weeks before I could figure out how to make a phone call from Italy.

Sometimes I think If I could trade all of the formal education I have had in exchange for travel experience I would.

Though I don't especially want to go anywhere where the bugs are bigger than my head.
Where have you been? Where do you want to go?

One of the best things I've ever done was two months of traveling in Europe after college. The sheer quantity of incredible memories still astounds me. I became a connoisseur of cappucino, a student of cathedrals (especially climbing the tiny, winding staircases up their steeples), a seeker of art museums... Fell in love with doner kebabs and all the wonderful parks of Europe (where we often played hacky-sack several hours a day). Anyway, I'd do it again in a second, though I wonder if I ever will have the opportunity. Let me tell you though, that evening spent on the steps of La Basilique du Sacre Coeur, drinking a couple bottles of cheap red wine, eating cheap brie on fresh baguettes, looking out over Paris... maybe we don't deserve that kind of experience more than once!

Where do I want to go? Everywhere. I love traveling the United States... Before we have kids, I still really want to do a month-long road trip in the West (a buddy and I did a week fly fishing in Yellowstone and Montana a in Sept. 2005)... maybe go from Minnesota to Seattle and Portland, stopping in Montana and Idaho, back across the southwest and Colorado perhaps?

I'd also love to see Alaska and New Zealand and yeah, Tahiti. :)

Thanks for giving me the chance to remember and dream, Mary...

b4 kids when we had some spare change, a bunch of us decided that we would go wherever nwa's cyber fare would take us that weekend. we ended up in regina, sakatchewan. its like a european town in the middle of the canadian prairie. met some characters up there. there was the guy from austrailia, who i believe lived in the town square park who wanted us to take him back to the u.s. with us for some reason. in one of the bars, we met a guy in a body cast who fell out of a tree who invited us to party where the incident took place. that was the bar that had like a huge vending machine that the labatt's and molson bottles would come out of. don't get me started on moose jaw, sask........

New York. How lame is it that I've never been there? I'll probably be going in March; any good music-related places to go see?
