  • Australian-New Zealand detente: Crowded House are getting back together again for a world tour.

  • Ross gets acquainted with local quartet Ela, can't help using that "emo" word.

  • Two more notables playing Coachella 2007: Tapes 'N' Tapes, Jesus and Mary Chain. Is there a cool band NOT playing this festival this year?

  • Ani Defranco has given birth to a righteous babe: Petah Lucia, 7 pounds 8 ounces. (Why is baby's weight always mentioned?)

  • Music criticism and the Village Voice: big decline or overdue evolution?

Yeah, babies' weights are usually mentioned when these kinds of things are reported. What I would like to start seeing is the baby's APGAR score detailed. Wouldn't that be a riot?

"Petah Lucia weiged in at a healthy 7 lbs, 8 oz; her APGAR score came in at a robust 9, with a particularly strong 'grimace'."

    Hellooooo, is this thing on?

Yay for Crowded House! I think they are one of the most under-appreciated bands in music history. Seriously, forget about "Don't Dream It's Over," and listen to songs like "Fall at Your Feet," or "Into Temptation." The Finn bros. are fine songwriters and, thematically, I've never heard a band explore morality or religion so eloquently. I heartily encourage everyone to re-examine this band.
