REM, Patti Smith, Van Halen, the Ronettes, & Grandmaster Flash are the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame class of 2007. The Festivities will be held March 12th at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. VH1 has is not broadcasting the event this year as they have the last few. I'm almost glad it won't be on the tube this year. Can you imagine the obligatory "all-star jam"? It could be Michael Stipe & "Diamond Dave" Roth singing "Hot For Teacher"! Or, Grandmaster Flash passing the mic to Sammy Hagar for a verse of "The Message"!

Just to really get under Hansy's skin, I'm hoping they all get together and rock out to "People Got The Power". Actually, that wouldn't be a bad super group song, now that I think of it...
I can't imagine Patti willingly participating in any VH songs, but maybe she has a better sense of humor than I think.
I am surprised VH1 isn't airing it. Are you telling me that the "I Love New York" and "Hogan Knows Best" mararthons they play every weekend are more compelling and generate higher ratings and revenue than showing the induction ceremony for a measly three hours? It's a sad state of affairs when the station named Video Hits One, who made their initial bread and butter by playing every band listed above, is now less interested in recognizing the annual anointing of the old guard and is far more interested in creating more celebreality stars. Talk about the Surreal Life....
Bill you crack me up. Frankly, I'd pay good money to see them all try to work together on a cover of "Runnin' with the Devil" because... because I'm sick that way, and I think that song could use a dose of the layers that group could give it.
To Ali's excellent point... uhm What the heck? There must be some sort of mathematical formula to predict ratings and viability, and I can't believe the trainwreck of celebreality or a "top mostest craziest ever" list beat out the induction coverage. Who doesn't love watching artists - the same ones who give us so much - blush under recognition?
In a strange sick way, VH-1's decision formula must be like watching a Lorenz attractor. Remember when they kicked off, Ali? How could anyone track that evolution to now and not have their head spin? (Speaking of when they kicked off, I'll admit to being nuts over their weekday 9 p.m. "adult romance" programming at the time, even if I privately called it the Venus Flytrap hour.)
