Denny Doherty

Denny Doherty has died at the age of 66. Doherty gained fame as one of the titular Papas of the legendary 1960s group the Mamas and the Papas. He was preceded in death by "Mama" Cass Elliot in 1974 and John Phillips in 2001, leaving only Michelle Phillips alive from the original quartet. Doherty always seemed to me like "the other guy" in the group: he wasn't the chief songwriter, his children never collaborated with Brian Wilson's, and he never appeared in the Pufnstuf movie.

My first introduction to the Mamas and the Papas came when I was about 5 years old and they showed these music videos on the Disney Channel -- pop oldies interspersed with scenes from Disney productions. I remember seeing the video for "I Saw Her Again Last Night" and singing along with it whenever it came on. They had videos for everything from the Beach Boys to Steve Winwood. Does anyone else from my age bracket remember those videos?
