Keep your ears peeled this week for new music from Deerhoof, Jesse Sykes, and Fujiya And Miyagi.
Deerhoof has been a long time favorite of mine since I first heard the album "Reveille". I was skeptical of how the new album would sound without guitarist Chris Cohen (Cohen left the group to tour with The Curtains), but they've done it again. "Friend Opportunity" comes out today!
What's your latest discovery on The Current?

Well, we did it -- we set up an interview with Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz) and Paul Simonon (The Clash -- I said, The Clash), via satellite from London to talk about The Good, The Bad and The Queen, their new band. Well, at least we thought that was the name of their new band. Damon immediately informed us that was strictly the name of the album, and that the band "had no name." Great! This works how, exactly?
Despite having wrong information about roughly 37 other things on top of this (I'm sure I would have been more flustered if Damon and Paul hadn't been as pleasant to talk with) I think the interview still managed to yield some interesting moments. Or at least some interesting laughs. Here it is.

Now that The Twilight Singers have wrapped up their touring for a while. Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan have enterred the studio again to continue working on their Gutter Twins debut. They'll be posting updates here.

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't directly quote from either Spinal Tap or Raising Arizona.

Last fall, the guys from the local music list serv, minnieindie@minnieindie.com, hosted a local music showcase at the Hexagon Bar, where 25 bands played 8 minute sets -- a show made for folks with short attention spans or those who wanted to get a quick primer on local bands. Good times.
Well, now the Minnie Indie guys have expanded that idea into two nights at two different venues: Tonight's installment is at the 331 Club in NE Minneapolis; the second, this Thursday at the Hexagon Bar. See complete details below. See you there.
