  • MTV for the littlest people? Jack's Big Music Show.

  • You didn't know you wanted to know: Deets on that new Arcade Fire album.

  • David Bowie turns 60. Here's the first of many, many articles to come.

  • Dave Matthews emerges from sweet oblivion to play a character on the TV show House.

  • All the fuss over Idolator's "Jackin' Pop" poll is over. You can read about it here.

  • Can you keep it down in the back?

Last week, we learned that the best-selling album of 2006 was something called "High School Musical." (Wha?)

This isn't a sequel per se, but it could be: It's called "Rock the SAT," and it's an album designed to help kids improve their vocabulary in preparation for taking the SAT.

That's 268 new words, 20 per song. For example, here is the first verse of a song called "Silence, Reticence:"

    "You're so impertinent
    You're so impudent
You talk back all of the time
    Stupefied
    It dulls my senses
It numbs my state of mind
Where does that get me now
A weak, futile voice in the crowd"

Your assignment: (1) Using context and syntax, see if you can pick out the SAT-approved vocabulary in the lyrics above. (2) Which legitimate rock 'n' roll band would you listen to if your job was to pass the verbal portion of the SAT? You may pick up your pencils and turn the page NOW...

We've talked before about the relative merits of Ms. Patti Smith. Today, the conversation becomes moot: the Woman in the Men's Oversized Suit Coat was admitted into the RNR Hall of Fame, along with R.E.M. (happy birthday, Michael Stipe!), the Ronettes, Grandmaster Flash, and Van Halen.

We don't wish to stir up the coals too much, but the fact that Iggy Pop (and the Stooges) were losers on this particular ballot... well, what the heck are these so-called experts thinking? Iggy has been eligible longer, and his body of work is more influential than any of this years' inductees. In our humble opinion, of course.
