  • Mika tops that Beeb list of best new artists.

  • Filter celebrates Michael Stipe's 47th birthday in the video vault.

  • Ross knows even more too much: He gazes into his crystal ball for 2007.

  • Strib finally gets around to its critics poll. POS wins, surprising that one guy living under a rock in Ames, Iowa.

  • A short sharp blow below the knees

The Shins, a band with an enthusiastic fan base here in the Twin Cities, have announced that they'll repay your love the only way they know how: by launching their eagerly anticipated 2007 tour here, at First Avenue's main room!

This news so excited the folks at Pitchfork that they forgot about the permanent ban on mentioning what everyone on the planet already knows about our humble little flagship rock 'n' roll club:

On February 8, in the very spot where Prince once went crazy, heard doves cry, and saw you laughing in the purple rain (Minneapolis' First Avenue club), the Shins will launch their American tour in support of their new album, Wincing the Night Away.

Well, we have to live with it, sorta like living with The World's Largest Ball of Twine Made By One Man. Yeah, its neat. Yeah, we're proud of it.
Can we talk about something else now?
