In other words, look to the children!
What's the smallest electric guitar built by a stock guitar maker? This 3/4 size Fender Squier is a pretty cool start. And if you want to see the kids rocking out, scratching up, and beating down, be sure to check this out, this Sunday.

You got a shoutout in the comments, too! I agree with whoever called Beck the David Bowie of his generation, and that Jack White will probably be around too. I'm surprised no one mentioned Elliott Smith; even though he died, and he obviously won't still be performing 20-30 years from now, I get the feeling he'll be one of those artists whose stature only grows with time.
