We didn't want to keep chattering about this, but the blog world is still buzzing, so what the hey.
Probably the best article to date about that $150K disk ("Quite possibly the most important artifact in rock 'n' roll history"--quite possibly the biggest overstatement in rock 'n' roll history, but we can work it out in the comments) comes from the awesome Northwest Weekly the Portland Mercury.
But blogger Trevor Stenson speaks to the vagaries of record collecting, and reviews an apparent reproduction of the acetate that he heard--where else?--on the net.
"The promo recording is a very interesting listen despite the pops and clicks. Plus it didn't cost me a small fortune. I suppose if I were a multimillionaire I'd bid anyway—but as it is I'll only pay so much to hear "I'm waiting for the man" without drums. Perhaps the song wasn;t about scoring drugs after all but about waiting for your drummer to show. However, then it should have been entitled "I'm waiting for the woman" or "I'm waiting for the Moe" (Maureen Tucker).
