Remember the Jesus and Mary Chain?

If memory serves, the real blasphemy had to do more with the sound of the band, which was a brow-beating, tweeter-blowing wall of reverb from four diffident, big-haired young blokes in a squash court. Others reviled, we loved. (Were they the last truly great punk rock band, in terms of media manipulation? We think so...)

Still, we wonder: What CBS show in 1987 had the, um, cojones to book JAMC in the first place? It wasn't Letterman. He didn't leave NBC until 1993. WInning answer in the comments receives public adulation!

Of course I remember them, Hans. I was just listening to Psychocandy a couple of days ago. Talk about shocks of hair that made Chan, Bruce, and Michael look like they were sporting crewcuts (Hugo and Beej were never about the hair)! Have you seen George Gimarc's Punk Diary 1970-1982? Totally absorbing for those of us who came of age across the cusp between the 70s and 80s and dug the scene. Bumped into Dave Thiel a few months back at Target. How's Charlie? Um ya ya!

What show? No clue, but it was probably something relatively short-lived. Hell, 'member Husker Du on The Joan Rivers Show?

oh my gosh, that Husker Du footage is three minutes of the most uncomfortable television EVER.

I'm going to have to go with The Bold and The Beautiful.

The show premiered on March 23, 1987.

Creative partners and brothers, Lee Phillip Bell and William J. Bell, thought it would be really cool to have a couple of real-life rock-n-roll brothers on the show. And Jim and William Reid were ready for their breakout on the American Tele.

Really, look it up!
