How do you find that one tune you can't quite remember?

More Rock 'N' Roll toys for the Holidays--not so much for your shopping list, but for your momentary distraction...

A couple of months ago, we mentioned a new web-based dealio that helped desperate seekers find "that one song that goes like..."

Songtapper ostensibly "worked" by having you, desperate seeker, tap the rhythm of the melody on your space bar. That was a little confusing. (Rhythm of the melody? Wha?) But it actually worked like 15 percent of the time.

Now a company called Naiyo has launched a humming search. If you can overcome the technical challenges of working a microphone with your PC, and if you have no issues with cubicle stagefright, then you step up to the mic and hum a few bars of the desperately lost song. Thereafter, Naiyo is supposed to name that tune.

On the other hand, many of you have discovered that we already have a fabulous songfinding technology at our disposal: The Current's DJs, whose knowledge on these important matters is wikipedic!

Oh hey! Michael Wells (The Current's Web Producer, natch) was telling me about this! It will put that easypeasycheesey USB mic to good use. At HOME, at home. Never fear, all.

FWIW I've found that doing misheard lyric searches can help me if I don't really know the words and I really can't remember how the song goes.

Yes, the omniscient M. Wells turned me onto this too!

I rely on Google too... I read somewhere recently that one of the top visited sites on the entire web is PLyrics.com, where all the kids go to get clarity on punk-rock lyrics. nifty!

Clarity on punk-rock lyrics... Hans, that made my brain hurt. Granted, in a good, loud, punk-punch way. Will have to check it out.

I think it is cool that Naiyo allows musicians to submit performance recordings for "hosting, display, and distribution" (quote ala their TOS). V. cool.

Def. will be an interesting evolution to watch!
