Hey you! What's the best show you've seen lately? The worst?

Chooglin', courtesy of the band Perhaps it was Chooglin's CD release party at the Entry? GNR at Target Center? Your kid sister's talent show at Robbinsdale High School?

It's been a little while since we reminded you, dear reader, to talk amongst yourselves about, y'know... things!

And if you've been chained to your cubicle like we have for the last month, go ahead and tell us what your favorite audio stream or video clip has been in recent memory.

Do it all, right down there in the comments!

I saw Tim O'Reagan and the Owls a couple weeks ago. It was awesome.

Tapes N Tapes in the mainroom was amazing. I would highly suggest going to their show on the 29th.

I liked that Regina Spektor video for "Better," that was kinda sweet. Maybe even a little saccharine, but everybody needs a good strong sugar substitute once in a while.

Best show I saw was Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth at the State Fair. A serious thunderstorm followed by a serious rock show. Ending with War Pigs? Brilliant.

Honestly, the best show I've seen all year was the God Damn Doo Wop Band and Impaler doing a Ramones Tribute Show at Lee's Liquor Lounge back in October. That was a long time ago, but nothing's matched it since.

Two way tie...

Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint...I've seen Costello a few times before and he's about as versatile a performer as one can imagine. The collaboration with Toussaint brought an amazing new dimension to the show. Between these two there's nothing they couldn't pull off.

Then there was Fiona Apple and Damien Rice. The keyword here was "intensity". Both performances were so powerful it was impossible not to be transfixed. Clearly, no one sounds like either, the music is not only powerful but amazingly well crafted, highly creative and extremely moving. And this intimate live performance brought the music to a level far beyond what we hear on the album.

Worst show all year? Cat Power/Chan Marshall at the Varsity. Hands down. I knew what to expect going in, but seeing her "perform" was like witnessing a nervous breakdown take place on stage.

I can't remember ever leaving another concert early ... ever. But I left this one, and later found out that she went on to play for another 35 excruciating minutes.

Note to Chan: It wasn't the sound guy's fault. Just play your beautiful music.

Yeah, that's a shame about Cat. She had some really great shows, apparently, on this last tour. But her MPLS date fell into the old pattern i think. She's apparently sober now, but a little nuts. Funny, Ben mentioned Fiona, who I've come to think of the same way as Cat.. slightly insane, prone to breakdowns, when she's on she just blows you away, when she's off its a terrible disappointment... which i'm sure only feeds their neuroses, but whatevs

John Prine at the Orpheum in May. I think it was the last stop on his tour, he's beat cancer, he's in love, he's on fire over the war, he was giving it all he's got. Sweat a-drippin', guitar strings a-flyin', voice...a-crackin'--it was sweet, sweet, inspired, inspiring magic.

The Sleeter-Kinney performance at Lollapallooza was the best rock 'n roll performance I've ever experienced. It's sad when newly discovered favorite bands disband a week after you find them.

The worst show I saw this year: Pere Ubu. Absolutely heartbreakingly bad. Not because the band played poorly, but because after someone started yelling things like "Woo Hoo" while Dave Thomas was talking, he decided he didn't like Minneapolis anymore and behaved like a spoiled child. Stopping in the middle of songs, badmouthing the crowd--it was a total embarassment. I thought only Ryan Adams did this kind of thing. Anyone else see this?
