  • In case you're exhausted by "White Christmas," here's a nice rundown of new Holiday music this year, from Sarah McLachlan to the Klezmatics.

  • Hope springs eternal: The Kings of Leon are working on a new album, due in early 2007.

  • List-O-Mat: Pop Candy's "Top 100 People of 2006," starting (mercifully) from the top.

  • What's hip South of the border right now? No Depression alt-country, Mexican style.

  • On the wishlist for that hard-to-please nephew who sings for Panic at The Disco: Tickle Me Emo!

  • The story that won't go away: More on that VU acetate

We didn't want to keep chattering about this, but the blog world is still buzzing, so what the hey.

Probably the best article to date about that $150K disk ("Quite possibly the most important artifact in rock 'n' roll history"--quite possibly the biggest overstatement in rock 'n' roll history, but we can work it out in the comments) comes from the awesome Northwest Weekly the Portland Mercury.

But blogger Trevor Stenson speaks to the vagaries of record collecting, and reviews an apparent reproduction of the acetate that he heard--where else?--on the net.

"The promo recording is a very interesting listen despite the pops and clicks. Plus it didn't cost me a small fortune. I suppose if I were a multimillionaire I'd bid anyway—but as it is I'll only pay so much to hear "I'm waiting for the man" without drums. Perhaps the song wasn;t about scoring drugs after all but about waiting for your drummer to show. However, then it should have been entitled "I'm waiting for the woman" or "I'm waiting for the Moe" (Maureen Tucker).

Ripped Off! Tapes 'n' Tapes robbed in former British penal colony

Our favorite homeboys Tapes 'N' Tapes have been on a world-wind tour, most recently to Australia by way of Japan. How were things Down Under? Fine, if you don't count getting a bunch of stuff nicked from out the rental van.

More of the boys' report from their myspace page (current mood: sad)... after the jump.

Unfortunately, not everything was flowers and sunshine downunder. on friday, only a few hours before we were scheduled to fly home from perth, we got robbed. our van was parked at city beach (right outside of perth, australia), while we were taking a brief frolic in the indian ocean. our tour manager left the van unattended for about 10 minutes, and when we came back, someone had pried open a window and stole a lot of our personal belongings. Luckily very little of our gear was stolen (only 2 big muff distortion pedals, one boss loop station, one DW9000 kick drum pedal, and a tambourine). But our personal belongings did not fair so well.

    MNStories.com:

From MNStories.com: Seven nights, seven bars, one song: "Desperado."

It's a lot more painful than you'd guess. And it must have been hard for the singers, too (Taylor and and Miss Claudia).
