The Buffering Stream 11/16: Please Stretch Before Strenuous Exercise Edition

Posted at 7:00 AM on November 16, 2006 by Hans Eisenbeis

  • Random YouTuber of the day that happens to presage today's obsession with Gilded-Age fashion and androgyny: No More I Love Yous.

  • The strange, litigious oddessey of Bono's hat. Rock stars these days.

  • Ross misses Honeydogs Day by a day.

  • Chris checks out the New York Dolls.

  • Robert Pollard won't be playing here this weekend: He managed to tear a muscle in his calf. Too much wah wah pedal?

Standing almost literally in the shadow of the Honeydog's CD release party tomorrow night at First Avenue: Chooglin', the buzzy Minneapolis rawk band. Over in the Seventh Street Entry, they'll be celebrating the release of their debut CD.

Rather than be the umpteenth listener to peck some nonsense about the band's sound being "unclassifiable," we're going to just say they rock hard, and we like hard rock.

You can work out your own genre typology by sneaking a listen to three tunes off the new disk, presently posted—where else?— at Chooglin's MySpace page, here.

  • Earlier: Chooglin' on The Local Show with the gravity-defying Chris Roberts.

  • News of Willie Wisely: Choose Your Friends Carefully!

Willie Wisely By Dean Groover, courtesy Willie Wisely
Ever since Willie Wisely moved to Los Angeles, we've been worried about him. And with good reason: First, he started cavorting with Playboy Playmates. Then he landed roles in a few dangerous movies like "Austin Powers: Goldmember" and "Six Feet Under."

Now we've received word of two more disturbing developments. Wisely has recorded a Christmas single with "comedian" Andy Dick. It is a song with a title that perfectly captures the hilarity contained therein: "Happy B-Day to JC." (You are cordially invited to buy it from iTunes, here.)

Most disturbing of all? Wisely has coined a word to describe his new sonic directions:

Parador initiates a musical movement called "evocative pop," or "EVOC POP," which is exemplified by Wisely's singular brand of emotionally resonant, deeply memorable music.

Now, we're not going to cast any aspersions here, because we like what we've heard so far of the new disk. But this: Initiating and naming musical movements — not advised.
