The Buffering Stream 11/14: Y'know, Memory Lane Is A Two-Way

  • Chris hangs around long enough to see the Decemberists get up to speed.

  • The buzz band you've been hearing about, but haven't heard yet: Forward Russia.

  • Halloween leftover: The Cardigans unplugged at CMJ Music Festival.

  • Stewart Copeland is putting together another film--this time with footage of B52's, UB40, the Clash, and more.

  • Prince opens his new Vegas club with a rock 'n' roll show.

Time magazine has published its all-TIME greatest 100 albums. (Clever, huh?)

We know you're worried about whether this list reflects the sensible will of the people or the pretentious will of the critics, so we'll get this out of the way right here: A cursory review suggests that music snobs were responsible. (Hey, we love P.J. Harvey's "Stories" and Pavement's "Slanted" as much as the next guy; but two of the best records of all time, with no Pink Floyd representing? That's a willful slap in the face to Democracy.)

The only other thing we would add is this: Funny how five of the ten best albums of the 2000s weren't even recorded in the 2000s. They are re-released collections of Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Sam Cooke, and Muddy Waters. That seems a little... uh, let's choose our words carefully here..... lame.

And beyond that, the most important question is this: Can this issue of Time outsell perennial favorites like Yoga and Jesus?

    6801005P PURDUE V OHIO STATE
Now that we're well into college football season, it's probably a safe time to point you in the direction of this. Don't ask what the University of Arizona Marching Band is smoking, just sit back and enjoy this astonishing halftime performance, during a September game against BYU, of Radiohead's "Paranoid Android."

According to our friends over at Pitchfork, the Pride of Arizona have actually put together a program of a half-dozen more post-modern classics by Thom Yorke and his front four, all waiting to be dug up like potatoes over at YouTube.

We hear Mankato State is working up a version of Stereolab's "Wow and Flutter."
