  • Ross's roundup: The Decemberists, Lloyd Cole, Joe Pernice, and more.

  • Chris notices a rapper singing for a local punk-rock band.

  • The second most uninteresting question ever posed in music journalism: Is criticism dead? (Was it ever alive?)

  • Lou Reed plays a corporate gig; doesn't like it much.

Over at City Pages, our hero Sarah Askari gets the real story on why Club 331 is getting heat from the city. Apparently, an inspector took a special interest in the club, and the club failed to y'know throw the right signs. The long and short of it is this:

Standards, rules, and regulations may be written down and collected in ugly, utilitarian municipal codes, but you don't need to be afraid of a boring codebook. You do, however, need to be afraid of the man carrying that codebook under his arm.

Which just goes to show you: Contact your hip, good-looking, occasionally visible mayor at your earliest convenience and let him know what you think about this strike from the forces of silence and darkness.
