Yesterday, we mentioned that "Open Season" took top honors at the box office last weekend. Today, we were pleased to run across this lovely eyewitness account of the premiere (from Man Without Ties, the Paul Westerberg message board). It includes a happy car-parking story, a brush with fame, and a two-minute review of the reunited Replacements:

"We're gonna do one more song that's not on the soundtrack." ... when I heard the first notes of IOU I couldn't believe it! And boy did it rock. I'm telling ya Kathy, Paul is back better than ever. Looked and sounded great and you could see the enthusisium as they finished "IOU you nothing." You think this could his little sarcastic dig at Sony??? Anyway, Paul and the boys definitely didn't polish things up for this performance. All three songs had that live Westerberg edge to them. Even Tommy smiled a couple of time.

Tommy, of course, is not allowed to smile with Guns 'N' Roses, so this must have been a bittersweet moment for everyone. [UPDATE: That was a joke.]

This is great to see them working together again, but I must say, I have seen the new GNR live, and Tommy is totally having a blast--laughing, joking, smiling, the whole time. You may want to retract that lie.

Yeah dude, Tommy and Axl are like best friends. They are always cracking jokes and laughing together onstage. Tommy is definetly having a great time with Guns. I've seen them at Hammerstein already this year and now I will in NYC and Worcester and GN'R keep getting better and better.

Axl and Tommy are homeboys!!!!

Yeah, that's definitely not a nice thing to say about Tommy being in GNR. If you've seen the band perform, you'd know that Tommy is absolutely having a blast playing with the band. Doesn't seem like he's being held down to me...

BTW Tommy is the second hand in GN'R so he can do whatever he pleased... and he's a super cool guy, not another angry man throwing and spreading lies across the internet ;)

You know Tommy loves Axl and hates Paul right? Tommy was really ticked off when he and Paul were supposted to do the jim rome show on the radio a few months ago and Paul blew them both off. If you ever saw Tommy playing with Axl on stage he is always smiling.

I expect a little more when it comes to public radio. Tommy and Axl are tight. Please don't twist the facts to fit your pre-conceived dislike for Guns N' Roses.

Have you been to a show have you seen Tommy on Stage because i have more than once and he like everyone else in the band cannot seem to wipe the smiles off their faces so where you get that i dont know. Try doing your research next time.

Hans, we know you were kidding!!! I am hoping, that in the future, Tommy and Paul record more songs together, and maybe tour in 2008 when the original gnr reunite for a final glorious tour. I must say, though, that Tommy does really seem to enjoy playng with his current band GNR!

Hans, are you going to cover the GNR show at the Target Center (12/1) for MPR & and then have it sydicated for NPR? You should check out the leaked GNR tunes that Tommy wrote with Axl--great stuff, esp. the song "Better!"

I was a replacements fan and hope they work together, but I must say that being a Guns N' Roses fan, I think Tommy is a great addition to Axl Rose's project. I saw them in Las Vegas a few weeks ago and was blown away. Tommy adds his own style to the classic stuff and their new material will blow you away! Tommy seemed to really enjoy being a part of such a talented band. Please look at the talent/ potential involved in the 2006 version of Axl/ Guns N' Roses before you take a shot at Tommy for being in the band.

christ, someone musta posted this on the GNR forum or something, look at how quicky those comments were posted in sucession....

plus, it's hardly still truly "GNR". that's great Tommy's having fun, but i guarantee you it's because it pays the bills moreso.

GNR anymore is a joke, and the true fans Axl still has will realize this once Chinese Democracy finally comes out and is one of the biggest commercial flops of all time (just wait).

GNR fans are a resiliant bunch, you try to wait for a new album for 12+ years!

Just think of how many Guns fans are going to be turned on to The Replacements because of Tommy. Dissing GNR is not as fashonable as it was 10 years ago if you are into jumping on the bandwagon.....
