Joseph Arthur: The Anti-Commercial

There's a new song on the terrific new Joseph Arthur album, "Black Lexus." While Joe has licensed several songs to movie soundtracks, he gave into temptation only once. In conversation with Mark Wheat the other day, he admitted selling a song for commercial purposes just once, over in Europe, but he regretted it--even though he was, at the time, in desperate straits and thought he might "get in on a little of that Sting money."

"Black Lexus" is hardly an endorsement of Toyota's luxury line, but did Joe discuss the tune with the company? Joe said,

"No, I didn't talk to them or anything. What does 'Lexus' mean? Is it just a car? That sounds like something from mythology. 'He strode forth and carried a Lexus...' like a sword or something."

Well, we're here to help, Mr. Arthur: Actually, the vaguely Latin-sounding name doesn't mean anything. It's one of those silly made-up words like Accenture or Ameriprise or Quisp. All of these words have the same meaning: "Stop asking so many questions and just buy me!"

Also this: According to Joseph Arthur, his new guitarist Kraig Jarret Johnson, has an alcohol-fueled alter-ego named "Chupey." How about you tell us who you become when you're into your cups?
