  • Holiday Creep

Louisville's My Morning Jacket have made a concert film, which will be available on DVD come Halloween. But a few lucky cities will host big-screen premieres on October 30, reviving the disused holiday of "Mischief Night."

The night before Halloween is celebrated in many Northern European countries, where it is known as "Devil's Night", "Mizzie Night", "Gate Night", "Cabbage Night", "Mat Night", or "Goosie Night." Wikipedia reminds us that this pre-holiday holiday "is often associated with pranks or destructive activities performed by adolescents." Here in America, of course, every night is Mischief Night, making the holiday moot.

The Pre-Electric Electric Guitar & the Auteur's Daughter

Posted at 1:00 PM on October 10, 2006 by Hans Eisenbeis

Stereogum is giving away Marie Antoinette's guitar, which is, oddly, an Epiphone electric guitar. (Hint: Stereogum vigorously approves of the Marie Antoinette soundtrack. Stereogum advertisers vigorously approve of Steroegum's vigorous approval. Synergy!)

Anyway, let's take this opportunity to irritate a whole new constituency: Sofia Coppola is beautiful, be she is a deplorably overrated filmmaker. While "the Virgin Suicides" was brilliant, "Lost In Translation" was a movie like 200,000 frames of sandpaper whose only redeeming quality was that Bill Murray finally got to play a movie star.

Being fair-minded and wholly objective about these things, though, we pledge to see Marie without prejudice.
