In this recent interview, TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek dropped the heavy dime on modern record distribution.

Q: You self-released your first disc, OK Calculator, and pretty much handed it out on the street?

A: Yeah. And tucked it in furniture at furniture stores. Which has to be a riot, because we put them in some ugly s---. I can't imagine someone taking this Italian leather couch home and finding this record.

We hear some of TVOR's most enthusiastic New York fans have gone broke buying multiple bedroom sets and modular sofas.

And The Band That Prays Together...

Good news! The band uniform is officially back, from the neckties of the Alarmists to the clown outfits of the Scissor Sisters. Experts say that when the kids are required to dress the same, there are fewer fights in the hallways, illicit drug use dwindles, lunches are entirely eaten, and sexual longings are gratifyingly repressed. We present to you the class of 2006.

    The Lost Chord

Posted at 3:00 PM on October 4, 2006 by Hans Eisenbeis (2 Comments)

You, like everyone else in the known universe, will probably be watching tonight's season premiere of "Lost." (Never mind the Yankees. Now if the Twins were playing in prime time, that would be a horse of a different color.) And you may have noticed that in seasons past the show's producers showed a certain flair for classic show tunes and tasteful retro-hits that were both creepy and brilliant. (Remember Mama Cass Elliott's "Make Your Own Kind of Music" when the crew went down the hatch? Awesome!)

While you're sharpening your pencils for tonight's big show, you can take a quick glance at this comprehensive web site that identifies songs and artists licensed for use on The Greatest TV Show of All Time. Here's what's on deck:

10.04.06 "A TALE OF TWO CITIES" [NEW] Jack, Kate and Sawyer must deal with their pasts, as they are held captive by "The Others" in mysterious prisons which remind them of their pre-island lives. Meanwhile, on the other side of the island, Bernard and Charlie attempt to re-establish leadership in a panicked camp, and Rose becomes concerned about the situation in the hatch.

Given the outline of tonight's episode, we're guessing maybe James Brown's "Prisoner of Love," Gang of Four's "We Live As We Dream Alone," or "Suicide is Painless (Theme from M*A*S*H*)" or maybe even "We're Gonna Win Twins." Your ideas for the perfect Lost mix? If you got 'em, let us have 'em. In the comments.

The Golden Age of Twin Cities Music: Exhibit No. 29

While we were feeling all sunny inside about Friday's Joseph Arthur show, a little birdie landed nearby and reminded us that Twin Citizen Kraig Jarret Johnson is playing in Joe's touring band. He'll be up there playing wing-man at the Fine Line. Sweet!

When Joseph Arthur took up a solo residency at the 400 Bar back in 2000, we fell in love with his symphonic knob-twiddling. But we can also testify to his credentials when the backdrop includes folks like KJJ. Let's just say big rawk.
