The Many Moods of Allmusic: Snowden Edition

Posted at 7:00 AM on September 19, 2006 by Hans Eisenbeis

As you know, when it's a quiet day in the world of music news, we like to shuffle over to the All Music guide--especially to hang out in their Moods area. Today, we learned that the reverby Atlanta quartet Snowden are, among other things,

  • Somber
  • Nocturnal
  • Brooding
  • Detached

You know the drill: Follow the Allmusic links to learn, by way of comparison, about similar bands with similar moods. We're feeling a little brooding ourselves, so let's seek out a few other brooding artists and albums. Allmusic points us in the direction of:

  • Bruce Springsteen, Nebraska
  • Radiohead, The Bends
  • Jesus and Mary Chain, Dark Lands
  • Richard and Linda Thompson, I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight

Does that put you in the mood sufficiently? Looking back, we think "reverby" works OK too, actually. In which case scratch all of the above, except Jesus and Mary Chain.

For what it's worth, when we think of "brooding," we think of missing last call, or hitch hiking to Duluth, or flunking art class, or mowing the lawn. What activity or band makes you brood? Let us know, in the comments.
