Monday Morning: On A Solemn Note

Elliot Smith died three years ago in October, and the world is a poorer place because of it. But someone keeps trying to pay it forward by selectively leaking demo sessions and bootlegs (dubiously offered as "B-sides"), round about the anniversary of Smith's premature departure. Doing the world a favor? Or prolonging the pain? You decide, in the comments.

(Where do WE stand on the issue, you ask? Let's just say selfish fanaticism should always yield to graceful respect for the dead, yeah?)

Although I have most of his albums and have listened to them seemingly hundreds of times I haven't really gotten myself to listen to him since he died. The last time I seriously listened to him was at his spontaneous show at the 400 Bar - one of his very last shows. Listening to his music now takes a different perspective on him that I guess I don't have yet. I just haven't been interested in him since. :-/

Unfortunately for me,I didn't become a fan until AFTER his death.
I then wrote a song in honor of him titled "Portland Sun" from my 2004 album,Cottonwood.Which,ironically, won't be discovered until after my death.
