Band Names: Marshall McLuhan Edition

TV on the Radio finally release their new record this side of the Atlantic today. We've been reading David Andrew Sitek's blog for a couple weeks now--not that it's a burden, since it's mostly loaded with lush, provocative photographs. Pictures on the Internet, you might say. Which for some reason made us want to put on our thinking caps and think of all the other cool bands with "TV" in their name. So far we've come up with:

  • Television--Tom Verlaine, duh!
  • Psychic TV--Trippy. Weird. "Difficult" (as the bin at Northern Lights used to say, circa 1982).
  • Alternative TV--Sniffin' Glue founder's floundering punk-rock group (back in the 70s).
  • TV Babies--Indie electronica. Today.
  • Television Personalities--New Wave of the 80s, gave birth to Pavement, and there's an awesome metaphor in there somewhere.
  • And of course the greatest TV-inspired band of all time (in these parts, anyway): TVBC.

On the other hand, note the appalling absence of bands with names inspired by TV's progenitor.

  • Radiohead.

Great band, but is that all? That is all.

I am a complete idiot for not putting the Television/T. Verlaine thing together after all these years.
