How Much Love Is Too Much Love?

Posted at 7:31 AM on August 28, 2006 by Hans Eisenbeis

A couple of weeks ago, we offered this advice: if you're having dinner at Geoff Barrow's house, you might want to avoid the pot roast. It seems that Portishead's chief knob-twister's mood has improved. Following news that there was a new Portishead tune posted to the band's MySpace page, he pecked the following message:

i heard from my mate that bbc radio 6 has been telling everyone that we have new material on here so id thought id better tell you that its not..
the tracks on here are doodles from about 3 years ago....
we are in the studio with tunes done but its unlikley that we will post any new stuff just yet
we are working everyday to finish it
thanks for stopping by anyhows.....and your patience

Aside form the astonishing lack of punctuation and capitalization in Barrow's message, a quick scan of reader comments on the page also reveals Rock 'N' Roll's most sycophantic fans ever. It's hard to believe there are so many adoring, self-flagellating fans for a band that hasn't actually released a recording in such a long, long time. Seven years to be exact. They call that a common-law marriage in some states. Other states call it the statute of limitations.
