A couple of weeks ago, we offered this advice: if you're having dinner at Geoff Barrow's house, you might want to avoid the pot roast. It seems that Portishead's chief knob-twister's mood has improved. Following news that there was a new Portishead tune posted to the band's MySpace page, he pecked the following message:
i heard from my mate that bbc radio 6 has been telling everyone that we have new material on here so id thought id better tell you that its not..
the tracks on here are doodles from about 3 years ago....
we are in the studio with tunes done but its unlikley that we will post any new stuff just yet
we are working everyday to finish it
thanks for stopping by anyhows.....and your patience

We thought you should know: Two of our favorite acts will be playing together on the Tonight show this evening: Jose "The Swede with an Hispanic name" Gonzalez, and Zero 7. (Jose features prominently on the new Zero 7 record, so it's not a complete accident, duh!)
Speaking of Zero 7, we feel bad that Jurassic Week sort of fizzled out at the end there. But between the Jurrasic 5, Mojave 3, and the Zero 7-- well, simple math never was a strong point with us. We've been confused ever since the Ben Folds 5; 13 Engines and 16 Horsepower just about finished us off. (3 Dog Night? Get a life!)
What's your favorite math-inspired band? Talk about it in the comments...

Serious YouTube geeks will remember "Guitar," currently number five on the list of all-time most-favorite videos on the website. It features an anonymous electric-guitar player sitting on his bed, riffing on Pachabel's Canon in D, making Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Yngwie Malmsteen look like Shrinky Dinks. Now the New York Times has gotten to the bottom of the mystery--you knew it was a mystery, right?-- revealing the identity of the world's greatest living guitarist-elect. He is Jeong-Hyun Lim, a 23-year-old Korean musician.
OK, that's all fine for screwing around at work. But when it's Miller Time? We'll stick with the world's simplest rock 'n' roll song ever recorded, which has been stuck in our craw for weeks.
