Not Feeling Too Keane At The Moment

Posted at 6:52 AM on August 22, 2006 by Hans Eisenbeis

Yesterday, news arrived in our inbox that Keane, the British piano-bar trio, was cancelling a number of shows on the remainder of its summer calendar due to "exhaustion." But this was emended late last night: Singer Tom Chaplin isn't exactly tired; he's struggling with cocaine and alcohol, and he's admitted himself into The Priory, a rehabilitation clinic.

Judging by the band'sitinerary at MySpace, though, Chaplin must be in the accelerated honors class. A month of shows in the US, beginning September 7th in Chicago, are still on the schedule.

The Priory? Pfft. Chaplin could always check into Hazelden, our local, world-famous dry dock for wayward rock stars and wannabes. We're not sure that would be lucky or unlucky--or for whom-- but since Keane have no shows scheduled in the Twin Cities for the forseeable future, we'd take our chances.

Jurassic Week, Day Two! Dreams of Grandeur

Yesterday over at AOL Music, Steve Baltin asked Mark 7even what a dream bill would look like. In other words, what's the Jurassic 5's equivalent of an all-time all-star fantasy-league lineup. Mark answers:

"Barry White, Smokey Robinson, Patti LaBelle, Bob Marley and Teddy Pendergrass."

Now that's a powerball lineup, pretty much covering all the bases from Reggae to Rock to Soul in a single bound.

Also this: Mark 7even? Maybe we were on to something yesterday when we suggested a secret J5 cloning program.

French Kicks: Had Enough Yet?

Because you are such a thorough person, you have noticed and taken advantage of this week's cool free download at The Current. And because we are here to serve you, you can follow this link to find free, legal video of an entire French Kicks concert, recorded in June in LA. Please note that none of these links will take you to the French Kix, an awesome breakfast cereal found wherever French is spoken and fine food is served.

Extra credit: Kix was the first "puffed cereal" and it was invented in Golden Valley, Minnesota!

Extra extra credit: The Minnesota Kicks was a professional soccer team in the 1970s--whose uniform vaguely resembled the cereal box!
