Lazy Rock-Critic Mashups, Part 1 (A Recurring Entertainment)

Speaking of Austin, Texas, we were also reminded of a delightful new discovery: The Black Angels, a homegrown group that will also be playing the Austin City Limits Festival.

Everyone knows that when you can't describe what a band sounds like, you resort to silly comparisons like this:

"Like Neal Young singing for the Doors in a handball court. Or maybe Grace Slick." --Actual quote from anonymous "buddy."

Now you try it:

[Band name] sounds like [older, better known band] and [another older, better known band] meeting in [an evocative location or activity, usually involving cats].

Fifty Seven Channels And Nothing On That Totally Rocks

Posted at 11:53 PM on August 10, 2006 by Hans Eisenbeis

If you have cable TV, you probably never had the itch to check out the Starz channel, which sounds a little like an 80s cover band or a family-sized can of hairspray. But the channel will host a series of indie and underground rock documentaries beginning August 28th. First up will be "Drive Well, Sleep Carefully: On the Road with Death Cab for Cutie." In September, set your TiVo for "Low in Europe." Films to follow: documentaries about They Might Be Giants (hey that already IS a film! And a full sentence!), Saddle Creek records, and Guided By Voices.
