Take-Up Productions announces new space: The Trylon

Posted at 4:45 PM on June 10, 2009 by Euan Kerr

Barry Kryshka says the projection booth is just about done, and the ceiling, but now his crew has to work on the rake in the auditorium. And then, of course, there are the walls to finish.

He's working on The Trylon, the new 60 seat theater Take-Up Productions is building in south Minneapolis. The idea is to create a quality projection experience with dual 35mm projectors and a 20 foot screen.

The theater, or as Take-Up is calling it, the microcinema, will open on July 17th with a celebration of Buster Keaton films, complete with live music by the Dreamland Faces, on the accordion and singing saw. There will be 6 Keaton films in all spread over three weekends. Here's the band in action.

Kryshka says the new space will double as his place of business, but there will be regular weekend programming in the fall. Take-Up has enjoyed great success over the last couple of years with its film series at the Parkway and more recently the noir series at the Riverview. He anticipates a couple of dozen screenings a year at the the larger theaters too, including a five film Audrey Hepburn series already planned for the Heights in September.
