Having been a little stunned and miffed at being unable to get a ticket to a Saturday afternoon screening of "Taken" because it was sold out the other weekend, the Sunday New York Times article really explained a lot.
It's the recession of course! People may complain about movie tickets being expensive, but it's still cheaper than doing a lot of other things, so they are flocking to the flicks.
The Times reports ticket sales are up 17.5 percent this year, which translates into a total $1.7 billion. It's not just more expensive seats though increasing the prices, but audience numbers are up: 16 percent more people at the ticket counter.
